Notes by division

  • All ages: The bat needs the NSA 2012 logo and must come from a company on NSA's approved list. A USA-only or USSSA-only bat is not NSA-legal. Wood bats must be stamped "Softball" or "Official Softball".
  • National qualifiers & Nationals: PGF plays NFHS rules with modifications and uses USA Softball's approved and non-approved lists, but doesn't name a required stamp. Bats are compression-tested and stickered. Check your event.
  • National & sanctioned events: Alliance-sanctioned events accept bats with a USA Softball (ASA) or USSSA stamp, per Alliance's own site. Bats on the non-approved lists, or altered (rolled or shaved), are banned. National events play NFHS rules, and event directors can add their own.

Stamps used in PGF, Alliance & other travel fastpitch

  • NSA 2012 logo, from an NSA-approved bat company: NSA requires the NSA 2012 logo, and the maker must be on NSA's Approved Bat Company list. A bat marked only USA or only USSSA is not NSA-legal. Official list.
  • one-piece solid wood: One-piece solid wood is legal almost everywhere without a stamp. Multi-piece, laminated, bamboo and composite-wood bats usually do need a certification mark.
  • USA Softball mark (ASA 2000, ASA 2004 or USA Softball "All Games"): The most widely required fastpitch stamp. USA Softball events also require the bat to be on the approved list and off the non-approved list. The ASA 2013 mark isn't legal for girls' or women's fastpitch. Official list.
  • USSSA fastpitch mark: USSSA's fastpitch certification, permanently applied by a licensed maker. Stickers and decals don't count. Official list.
