Can one bat work for Little League and travel ball?
Little League requires USABat; most travel ball uses USSSA. Here's when one bat covers both and when you need two. Last checked Oct 23, 2026.
Little League allows only USABat (or one-piece wood) through Majors, and bans USSSA bats. Most travel teams swing USSSA bats, which are generally considered higher-performing.
One bat that's legal in both
A USABat bat is legal at USSSA, Perfect Game and Game Day USA events at 12U and under. So if budget matters, one USABat bat covers both. The trade-off is that your player will be swinging a wood-like bat against travel opponents with USSSA bats.
When you'll want two
- Your travel team plays mostly USSSA and your player wants a USSSA bat there.
- Your player is 13U+. USSSA's -8 minimum (or -5 at many events) rules out most USABat bats, which tend to be -10 to -11.
