Buying a used bat: a checklist

Used bats can save a lot, or be illegal. Check these five things first. Last checked Oct 23, 2026.
  1. Right stamp for your league. Use the Bat Finder to see which stamp you need.
  2. Permanent, legible mark. Stickers don't count, and a worn-off mark can get the bat pulled.
  3. Not decertified. Check the model against the USABat and Little League decertified lists (or your softball organization's list).
  4. No cracks, dents or rattles. Little League removes bats with cracks or sharp edges.
  5. Not rolled or shaved. An unusually "hot" used bat at a cheap price is a red flag. Tampered bats are illegal.

Expect no warranty: they usually cover only the original buyer with a receipt.
